My preparation for SIA’s Eastern European Adventure
We left morecambe at 9am. Sunny day to start with and an easy ride out to and through Lancaster on the cycleways which included a visit to Lancaster prison. Unfortunately, they released us to head into a 23 mph head wind which we had all the way to the end of day one. To be honest it was an absolute killer, have never riden in such a wind.
We climbed 4000 feet including one ascent from Settle of 1400 feet so with a headwind we were almost stationary trying the climb. Fabulous downhill journey to recover where I reached 38.3mph taking the trophy for day one. I won by 0.5mph so day two will be interesting.
Amazing scenery and a great experience but aching more than I or any of the group expected.
Now having a beer and relaxing before heading off tomorrow at 9am for day two with the day ending in York.
